Our History

2007

The Orphan Sponsorship Program (OSP) at the University of Waterloo began in 2007, inspired by similar initiatives at other universities, such as York University or Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson). Initially, OSP focused solely on raising funds to sponsor orphans through various charitable organizations. The program's primary goal was to provide a consistent source of financial support to vulnerable children around the world.

2020

Like many organizations, OSP faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, with several terms of limited activity. However, during the Winter 2021 term, OSP made a strong comeback, adapting to the new normal by organizing online events.

2022

From 2022 onward, OSP has witnessed record-breaking fundraising achievements every year. By diversifying its efforts, OSP has expanded its support to include orphans in over 15 countries, water well construction, food aid, emergency relief, and more.

Present

OSP continues to grow its impact and evolve its mission, driven by the passionate UW community. As the program looks ahead, it aims to maintain its commitment to supporting orphans while exploring new avenues to aid vulnerable communities around the world.
